Cannot Login to iCloud with 2-Factor Authentication
Reported by Gary JONES | May 24th, 2017 @ 08:00 AM
Hi :)
I just tried to add a new iCloud account to MailMate but it doesn't
work.
The iCloud account was set up using 2-factor authentication.
I can log onto the account using terminal, Apple Mail etc, but
MailMate doesn't connect.
I know there are messages on the IMAP server because I can see
them using iCloud from a web browser.
I can also see them using Apple Mail.
In MailMate, the 'Synchronise' option is greyed out for the
mailboxes for this account,
and no emails are downloaded when I select 'Sync All'.
I don't get any error messages when I try to sync.
The Activity Viewer displays :-
07:58:12 S: A0 NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Authentication
failed
07:58:12 Error: Server response: “A0 NO
[AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Authentication failed”. Command
attempted: “A0 AUTHENTICATE PLAIN
••••••••••”.
07:58:12 Retrieving password (keychain or user request)
07:58:12 C: A1 AUTHENTICATE PLAIN
••••••••••
07:58:12 Error code: 9
07:58:12 Failed action (1000). Reset observed read/write timeouts:
8/8
07:58:12 Handling reply
I know I'm using the correct password etc because I can log into the IMAP server using Terminal ...
Any suggestions ?
Gary

Since Terminal is working then I'm probably not right, but I just need to make sure you are aware of application specific passwords.
(It works in Apple Mail because Apple, and Apple only, has access to a different authentication method which does not need an application specific password.)
