Line breaks are lost in outlook

I'm a new user considering moving over to MailMate. However, I have the following issue: most of my email correspondence is work-related and many recipients use the Outlook Web App (OWA).
When I send messages from Mailmate, all line breaks are lost. Is there any way to fix this?

If this is an issue I've encountered earlier on then I haven't yet figured out how to best resolve it. You can try pasting the following line in a Terminal window:
defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDefaultCSS -string 'p { margin: 1em 0px; }'Relaunch MailMate and let me know whether or not it makes a difference in your case.

That seems to have improved the formatting when emails are sent in plain text - but when sent in markdown the line breaks are still lost when messages are viewed in the outlook web app. I suppose it is a problem with outlook.
Any other ideas?
