Smart mailboxes are missing email sources
Reported by Julian | February 20th, 2017 @ 07:23 AM
I use several smart mailboxes to differentiate between my
private mailaccounts and business accounts (Inbox Private &
Inbox Business).
Now each of these smart mailboxes contains several email adresses
setup as following:
Any of the following mailboxes
email1 > INBOX
email2 > INBOX
email3 > INBOX
email4 > INBOX
Now this works fine for the majority of email sources but I've got problems with some of them. Their emails do not show up in the smart mailbox although the inbox is configured in the smart mailbox settings as seen above. The issue does not occur with any specific email provider. Some gmail adresses work others don't. Some of my own emails on my domains work others don't although it is exactly the same domain, hoster etc.
When I try to delete and re-add the inbox to the smart mailbox settings the emails show up (sometimes) but after restarting the mailmate app they are gone again (despite the mailbox still being displayed in the smart mailbox settings). Right now I manage 13 different emailaccounts via MailMate.
Anyone else experiencing this?

It doesn't ring a bell, but since it's reproducible (for you) then we should be able to track it down. I'd like to see the following files:
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Mailboxes.plist ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Sources.plist
You can send them using “Help ▸ Send Feedback”.
Let me know the name of one of the problematic accounts (and the name of the smart folder).
Thanks in advance.

I think I have the same or at least a similar problem with a slightly different but simpler setup.
Background: On the mail server (mailbox.org) I have a folder
Aliqua
where I am moving mails into on the mail server (server-side mail filtering). My smart mailbox setup:
In MailMate, I defined a smart mailbox called
Aliqua
which should show me the unread mails of theAliqua
mail server folder of the last 24h. It’s settings are as follows:- Mailboxes: - Any of the following mailboxes - mailbox.org -> Aliqua - Conditions: - All of the following are true - Date-Received ist within last 1 days - Tags/Keywords do not include Seen (Read)
The
Aliqua
smart mailbox itself resides within anAll
smart mailbox (I think this is a standard smart mailbox) with the following settings:- Mailboxes: - Any of the following mailboxes - All Messages
The typical behavior I observe is that when I open MailMate and click on the
Aliqua
smart mailbox then no messages are displayed (despite the fact that there are new messages in theAliqua
folder on the server). When I choose Edit Mailbox… and I change Any of the following mailboxes to All of the following mailboxes and then back again to Any of the following mailboxes then the messages are all correctly shown in theAliqua
smart mailbox. But when I close MailMate and open it again the messages have disappeared again and I have to repeat the Edit Mailbox… trick.Find attached some screenshots that illustrate this problem.

Sound exactly like the one I have.
Did you already see this ticket Benny? -

@Julian: Again, I'm very sorry about the slow response on this one. It's partly because it's a complex setup and it's not obvious how I could reproduce it. I've looked through the files, but I don't see anything suspicious. I can see you have also tried updating to the latest test release of MailMate.
I could not access the uploaded movie for which you sent me a link by email. Could you see if you can re-upload or somehow provide access for me?
@Tobias: I'm not sure it's the same issue, but at least your example appears simpler. Could you send me the following files using “Help ▸ Send Feedback”:
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Mailboxes.plist ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Sources.plist
I'll then try to setup something similar to see if I can reproduce it.

@Julian: I believe I have a fix for you. Hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane to get the latest test release (r5394). It turns out the issue was related to the so-called UTF-8 encoding of the names of some of the mailboxes in your account. It was a MailMate bug even if the encoding was a bit unusual and it's quite possible that it'll also help other users unaware that they have the same problem (which probably could have all kinds of side-effects). Thanks for your patience!
@Tobias: I'm still not sure your issue is the same, but you can naturally also try the test release.

I just tested it and it worked after relaunching mailmate.
Thanks for the fix.I'll monitor it for a few days but it works perfectly at the moment.
What about you Tobias?

@Tobias: That's great. The file you sent me also appears to confirm that it's the same issue. One side-effect has been that the initial synchronization of an account has likely been much slower than it ought to be, but there has likely also been many other side-effects. I'm glad it's fixed.
