IMAP login fails unless an e-mail-address is used as user name

Provider: domainfactory.eu
E-mail address (user@host.example) or account number (1234567) can be used as user name to access IMAP accounts. MailMate fails to login with account number. Not an issue with other mail clients (tested with Mail.app, Outlook, Canary, Claws Mail, Eudora, and more).

That's very strange. MailMate would not treat the two cases in different ways.
What kind of error message do you get?
What is the IMAP hostname? I can provide instructions to connect manually to verify that it works without involving MailMate.

I looked into it a little further. The good news: login is possible with the user account number.
However, if you happen to enter an invalid password during setting up an IMAP account, (re)enter the account settings and click "Edit subscriptions", a popup will appear and correctly inform you about the wrong password:
Server response: “B1 NO Invalid login or password”. Command attempted: “B1 AUTHENTICATE PLAIN ••••••••••”.
The popup allows you to reenter the password, but if you enter the correct password now, the login will again fail with the same error message, which is now incorrect behaviour.
You have to go back to the account settings, enter the correct password there and hit "Apply". Afterwards you can reopen the settings and edit subscriptions without trouble.
