MacOS Sierra two-way authentication for iCloud email

I updated to OS X 10.12 turned on two-way authentication and now my iCloud account is offline. Not an emergency for me, but inconvenient.

You need an application specific password. There's unfortunately no other way to do it, because Apple does not provide any other way (except for their own applications of course).
