Number of open files

Reported by Stefan Doehla | July 17th, 2016 @ 09:14 PM

Hi Benny,

first of all, enjoy your summer holidays, I expect no immediate answer :)

I recently have multiple BBOD issues (beachball of death) and check all possible reasons. One possible reason I read up on the Internet is the number of open files - and there MailMate is hitting the ceiling. I currently have 830 files opened by MailMate, with Chromium ranking second with 392 open files and then Finder with 358 open files.

I am not sure this is an issue, but simply wanted to ask you whether this number of open files is really needed or ever caused an issue.

Cheers,
- Stefan

Well, “needed” is a strong word, but it's how MailMate currently works. It's mainly related to the handling of indexing of headers I believe. 830 is a bit much though. If you like then you can send me a list by email (e.g., from the Activity Monitor) and I'll review it (Help ▸ Send Feedback).

I don't currently know of any issues related to this, but you never know.
