Tooltips for links on hover appear too soon and stack excessively

MailMate seems to display tooltips for links using its own
method (judging from their yellow color), and they seem to appear
too soon, which leads to a cascade of tooltips appearing after a
single swipe over the letter pane.
Expected behavior: tooltips appear after the same
delay as they do system-wide. Actual behavior:
tooltips appear instantly on hover.
Also while the cursor is over the tooltip, it stays visible, but
if cascade of tooltips was triggered, all of them
stay on the screen (see attached screenshot) until cursor is moved
away from them.
Expected behavior: each of the open tooltips hides
after the timeout, only last one tooltip stays visible while cursor
hover near or over it. Actual behavior: yellowish
chaos of long tooltips over the screen that get stuck until you
move cursor away from the mail viewer pane.

The current tooltip method is going to be replaced with something similar to what Safari does. This still appears to be buggy for some users, but if you enable 2.0 features in the General preferences pane and fetch the latest beta then you can try it out (see the Software Update preferences pane).
Let me know if you have problems with that as well.
