Instant crash when opening editor window
Reported by Alexander Kucera | February 6th, 2016 @ 04:20 PM
Hi Benny,
I just reinstalled my Mac and copied over all the settings and mailboxes and whatnot from the old install. The old install was Yosemite the new one is El Capitan if that makes any difference.
Everything seemed to work fine until just now. I tried to reply to an email and poof MailMate is just gone. Turns out I also cannot write a new email. So my guess is that the crash is related to the editor window somehow.
Any ideas?

Looks like a MailMate bug, but I might need to create a debug release to analyze it. I think it might be related to
MmSMTPAlternativeEnabled
. Have you enabled that?It might also be related to your settings. Could you send me the following by email:
~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Identities.plist ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Sources.plist ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Submission.plist

Hi Benny,
please find the requested files in the archive linked below.

I tried to look up the value for MmSMTPAlternativeEnabled, but wasn't able to find it anywhere, so I assume I do not have it enabled.

Thanks, I've made a copy and you can delete them now (before some spam crawler finds it).

Just a quick note: I can reproduce it and I'll let you know when I have a fix. It might not be today though.
Thanks for the data!

Is it possible that you forgot to copy the
Identities.plist
file. It seems very incomplete and this triggers the crash. I'll fix that, but then you probably need to edit the IMAP account settings of all of your accounts and add names and email addresses. -

I copied the whole MailMate Application Support folder. It so I thought. Maybe the copy operation didn't complete successfully and I didn't notice? I'll try to copy over just the broken plist and see if that fixes it. So don't spend time fixing it now if a simple copy will fix it in my end. Thanks and I'll let you know how it went.

Hi Benny,
all is well again. I just copied over Identities.plist from the backup again and all is working now. Weird that all the rest copied without problems.
Thanks for your help. Feel free to close the ticket.

I'm glad it is resolved. I've also “fixed” the crash. Let me know if it turns out that the problem (somehow) was not the copy action, e.g., that MailMate somehow loses the file.
