unable to search... and many toolbar buttons disabled.

The search field no longer does anything. And many of the toolbar buttons (e.g., message priority) do nothing as well and show as disabled. (Search still appears enabled, but does nothing.)
I have downloaded and reinstalled a fresh copy of MailMate v1.9.3 (5187) to no avail.
Adding a fresh flag icon to the toolbar does not fix the button.

Viewer window is/was in some funky histogram mode (lower pane of viewer window). I couldn't get it out of histogram mode, but I was able to create a new viewer window which works as normal. So I closed the problematic window.
Searching works fine in the fresh viewer window.

Just to clarify the mystery part: You had accidentally hit one of the ⌘- shortcuts which (currently) changes the layout. See the “View ▸ Layouts” menu.
