"Organize by Thread" turns itself on

Reported by Dave Eckhardt | December 4th, 2015 @ 03:07 AM

A couple months back suddenly MailMate started turning "Organize
by Thread" (in the View menu) on any time it is freshly started.

That is, I start MailMate, "Organize by Thread" is on; I turn it
off; I quit MailMate; I start MailMate; "Organize by Thread" is
back on again. Eh, what?

Sorry, this is a known issue (although no ticket existed before this one). Hopefully I'll look into it soon and then I'll update this ticket.

My current workaround is to remove organize by thread, then right click the columns and click "Use as Default Columns". The disabled "Organize by Thread" seems to be saved together with the columns.

I'm seeing this now - I dislike Organize by thread so wouldn’t have activated it, but I found it on when checking mail in a sub-folder. Can there be a preferences option to have it on/off globally?

    Thanks,

    Des

Agree with Des, I would LOVE to turn off Organize by thread globally. I am so tired of having to turn it off on every mailbox.

    Thanks!

As you can see this is an embarrassingly old ticket. Fixing/improving the entire system for saving mailbox related states is still on my todo though.

But what you are asking for actually exists already. See here.

I'll note to at least document this.

This bug has been irritating me for a while. I was about to post here but found this thread and benny's post above. It seems to work - hurray!

Anyone bumping into this, type this in a terminal:

$ defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmForcedThreadingType -string "flatThreading"

This problem seems to come and go in waves, though perhaps that’s my imagination. I detest “thread” view, as do my wife and mother-in-law, all of whom use MailMate. I do tire of explaining to them that it’s “a known issue” and that “Benny is working on it.”

    Still an issue in r5820.

I'm also embarrassed this is still an issue, but it's part of a major re-write of the messages outline still on my todo.

A stop-gap solution is this hidden preference which is useful for anyone never wanting the threaded mode:

defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmForcedThreadingType -string "flatThreading"
