Improve counter behaviour

Reported by Thibaud | May 3rd, 2011 @ 10:51 PM

When I receive an e-mail, the counter shows it in the top-left corner. It gives me some details concerning the e-mail when I click on it.

However, with these details, I generally know the content of the mail and I have to open MailMate to Archive it wheras I would like to directly archive it.

My proposition is to enable to archive it from this contextual menu. For instance, when the cursor is on an e-mail, another menu could pop and could propose: Archive, Junk, Delete.

Here is what is displayed when I click on the counter:

1 Unread Message in "MailBox"

"Your account has been activated on the board forum.com" from "Forum"

Here is what I would like to see when I click on the counter:

1 Unread Message in "MailBox"

"Your account has been activated on the board forum.com" from "Forum" => | Archive | Move to Junk | Delete

I have considered this myself. I just don't like the aesthetics of a
series of triangles in the menu with identical submenus, but if I cannot
come up with something better then I'll do as you have described :-)

I add that it could also be convenient to have:

2 Unread Messages in "MailBox" => | Archive all
------------------------------------------------------------------------ | Move all to Junk
"Your account has been activated on the board forum.com" from "Forum" | Delete all
"Your order has been processed" from "Bookseller"

    The implementation is nice :)

However, do you think it could be a good idea to consider messages as 'Read' when we click on 'Archive', 'Reply', 'Forward' or 'Move to Junk'?

Another thing: I keep my messages in my mailbox and archive them when associated tasks are performed. I would like to have a 'Read' option in the counter. Indeed, I often know why i gat a mail, without needing to read it, and know that I will have to keep it in my Inbox to perform the task later.

Auto-read: I considered it for Archive/Junk, but I decided that it was
better to keep the information that the message has never really been
read. I added Reply/Forward later and never considered it in that case.
It makes more sense, because you actually read these messages when the
composer is opened. I'll add that.

The other thing: You mean adding “Mark as Read” to the menu? I
thought about that, but postponed it because I couldn't decide how many
of the related menu items I should include. But I think “Mark as
Read/Unread” and “Mark as Flagged/Unflagged” would be suitable.
    I'll add those too.
