Empty message while replying

Reported by AS | May 2nd, 2015 @ 03:59 PM

The message created by replying to an email is blank.
It should quote the original email :)

Mailmate was working like a charm and I got an error message saying that there was an index problem (quote from memory) and invited me to qui the application.
I quitted, restarted. Every reply is blank.

I've manually rebuilt the database twice. Doesn't fix it.
I've tried to remove my signature without success...

If there is a solution I'll be happy to apply it ;)

This happens when replying to any message?

Try launching from the Terminal and see if there is any errors displayed. I suspect something goes wrong when MailMate calls an external command to generate the reply test. Do it like this:

    /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate

(Sorry about the late reply. I did get the email from you as well.)

This happens when replying to any message!

And of course the message is not blank when the app is started from the command line!
The only error (and a couple of deprecation warnings):

2015-05-03 10:37:23.755 MailMate[47960:507] Invalid color System, labelColor (warning given only once)

2015-05-03 10:37:24.718 MailMate[47960:507] *** WARNING: -[NSImage compositeToPoint:operation:] is deprecated in MacOSX 10.8 and later. Please use -[NSImage drawAtPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction:] instead.

2015-05-03 10:37:24.719 MailMate[47960:507] *** WARNING: -[NSImage compositeToPoint:fromRect:operation:] is deprecated in MacOSX 10.8 and later. Please use -[NSImage drawAtPoint:fromRect:operation:fraction:] instead.

Thanks for the reply (Sunday morning seriously?)! And yes I thought that this one is more an issue rather than a feedback hence the double posting.

But you still have the problem if you don't launch from the Terminal?

Do you have more than one version of MailMate installed? (Notice the path used when launching from the Terminal.)

You can try launching like this to make sure you launch the same version with both launch methods:

    open /Applications/MailMate.app

I have only one version (and Spothlight finds only one Application named Mailmate)

    1. I see the mail I'm replying to when starting the application from the command line /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate
    2. I do not see the email I'm replying to when I start either through the finder or using open /Applications/MailMate.app

Ok, try opening “/Applications/Utilities/Console.app” and look for output from MailMate after attempting a reply.

Which OS are you using? Do you have any low level changes to search paths or anything like that? Any custom ruby settings? (If you have no idea what that means then it's fine.)

After playing around with the application started from the command line I can see a warning:

Warning: Asked to fetch for non-existing message with uid 5586 (presumably deleted on the server)
Warning: No UIDs exist for which messages are requested to be fetched.

It might be irrelevant though since I can still see the original mail when replying in this version.

This would happen if you deleted a message using a different email client before MailMate had fetched it in full. It could also be a server bug, but it's unrelated to the reply problem. If you see it often then it's something we can debug later to make sure it's not a MailMate bug.

There are no new message in Console.app (except the two warnings previously seen)

I am runnig 10.9.5 (damn Yosemite and TRIM capabilities)

And yes I have a pretty customized PATH. I am using RVM and a ton of ruby versions but I tried starting the app with either the system ruby 2.1.1p76 or ruby-2.1.6 and no change, I can see the reply only when using /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate
