Navigating Thread view - click v option-click

I really appreciate MailMate's structured view of message threads, which clearly distinguish replies from replies-to-replies etc etc. In conjunction with the "Thread Arcs" screen layout it gives a view that I've seen in no other mailer.
When navigating messages in the index, it is good to be able to expand one level or all levels of a message reply hierarchy, by clicking on the triangle with or without option.
But personally I'd like to invert the action of the option key. Is there or can there be an option controlling this behaviour?

PS the same behaviour is needed to control the function of the right-arrow, which can be used to open the first level of replies, or all levels if "option" is also pressed.
