Importing .mbox from AppleMail
Reported by Guillaume Daudin | March 28th, 2015 @ 12:15 AM
Hi,
I am using MailMate 10.9 on Mac OS X 10.10.2. I have exported a .mbox message from Apple Mail and I am trying to import it. The command in the menu is not greyed out. Using it leads me to an Open window, but selecting the file I want to import and clicking «import» gives me exactly no effect that I can see. No error message, no new mailbox.
Can you help ?
Thanks,
Guillaume

Note that the destination mailbox for the import is in the bottom part of the file chooser. Also, make sure you select the
mbox
file for import and not its parent folder.I just tried it and it works for me. Right now I'm on a 10.7 machine though.

Thank you for your answer. I tried again with the same effect. At that point, I suppose there is an issue with the .mbox ? I have tried a couple without effect. I have tried to upload to an icloud account and a zimbra one. Shall I send you one of the .mbox files ?

Yes, if you have a shareable mbox file then that would be fine. What is your OS version?
You can send it using “Help ▸ Send Feedback”.

Ah, double checking, it, it works in that all the messages are imported. But I had expected them to be put in their specific folders and they were not. Is there any way to import the messages + the folder structure ?

Giving a bit of background, I would like to move from local folders in Mail to a full-imap stocking, but using Mail to do that does not work for some of my foldersx

A single mbox file has no folder structure. MailMate does have an option for recursively parsing and creating mailboxes in the import window, but this is probably a bit hit-and-miss.
In any case, it is always better to migrate via the IMAP server, but this does not work for some of your folders. Do you have any idea why?

Thank you for your patience for these newbie errors and misunderstandings.
The issues with migration via the IMAP server seem to be linked to the icloud server. Trying to migrate from local to another server works. So I did not explore more.

I am a bit unsure if this means you still needed me to fix a problem? Or if you could do it via the IMAP server.

I could do it via the IMAP server, so the problem is fixed for me.
