Doubled Keystrokes in Pop-Up Menus

Every once in a while when I call up one of the input pop-overs (command-T, option-command-T), the text input is doubled. When this happens, I have to hit the escape key to dismiss the window, and that solves the problem so that when I hit command-T or option-command-T again, everything functions normally.
