I should have added that I have been using postbox on this account for a few years and have not experienced a problem. The pb settings are port 25/no authentication/no connection security

    Thanks!

    • State changed from “new” to “accepted”

The problem is that MailMate really does not support GSSAPI or DIGEST-MD5. Only CRAM-MD5 is supported (and various simple types). Note that DIGEST-MD5 is actually depreated and therefore this is essentially about GSSAPI.

I'll put this ticket in the “accepted” state for supporting GSSAPI, but in my experience few servers actually require it. Your server has probably been configured like this for security, in particular, to avoid usernames and passwords to be sent in clear text, but it would be better if the server required SSL (TLS). For SMTP/IMAP then GSSAPI only protects the authentication step. Everything else is still sent as plain txt. SSL encrypts everything sent between the client and the server.

Most likely you cannot change the behavior of the server, but I cannot promise support for GSSAPI (and other authentication protocols) soon.

    Benny,

Thanks - I have communicated with the email admin and am told that The mail servers use opportunistic TLS encryption (i.e. SSL), which means they support TLS but also allow plaintext communication. They indicated that if I configured mailmate to use TLS (or STARTTLS) when sending it will be sent using SSL. Is there another setting somewhere? As of now I am using mm to process email but having to use another client to send for this account. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated

It sounds like you should just enable SSL for both IMAP and SMTP in the account settings: Go to “File ▸ Edit IMAP Account ▸ ...” and then review the settings. Maybe GSSAPI is only required when SSL is enabled.

I've sent you an email as well.

Please add my "upvote" for GSSAPI. A lot of my power user friends are extremely happy with MailMate and I'm anxious to try, but would prefer to use GSSAPI -- not against Exchange, but my own plain Kerberos5 infrastructure.

    Thanks,

    /Måns

@Måns: This is rarely requested, but I'll keep it in mind. If I do work on this, would you then be able to provide a GSSAPI test account? (I don't think I currently have access to one.)
