Feature Request: Export message as PDF
Reported by Yannick Audet | July 6th, 2014 @ 12:23 AM
Hi Benny,
To start congrats on a very interesting product, and a very worthwhile and challenging pursuit!
I don't have the technical chops to evaluate the complexity of this request, but it seems to me that MailMate is the very best hope to cross the rubicon of workflow automation: bridging the gap from what rules can achieve and connect with folder-based automators (Noodlesoft's Hazel being the best example) by enabling some form of export as PDF/save attachments capabilities.
In setting up a paperless workflow for both company accounting and personal finances, I have pretty much nailed everything received on paper (Scansnap+OCR+Hazel), but everything received by email still need to be manually saved or exported as pdf before it can be actioned (even if it can be corralled via a smart mailbox to make it a bit easier).
Providing the ability for rules to trigger an "export as PDF" on both email content and a save attachment is something that to the best of my understanding can only be done with GUI-based scripting, and only in some mail clients.
It also seems to me that this is something that would be of value to MailMate's more technically-inclined user base. And since you have already gone to the trouble of adding commands to pass on actions to task managers, this seems to me like an additional step in that direction.
In order to work, a user would need to be able to select a destination, and most likely to define how the exported file would be named based on message properties. Also, in some case it's the attachment that is of value rather than the message itself.
Do not hesitate if I can provide additional information, would be a pleasure.
