S/MIME "Unknown format in import. Error code: -25257"

I'm a few days into my trial of MailMate and having trouble
sending S/MIME encrypted messages. I can sign them successfully
with my private key, but when I try to encrypt them with the
recipient's public key, I get the following message in the yellow
banner within the composer window:
Unknown security problem for S/MIME message.
An unknown problem concerning decryption or signature verification was detected.
When I click the button for more info, all I get is:
Unknown format in import. Error code: -25257
My recipients' public keys are in my keychain and work correctly in
mail.app. Any advice on what I might be doing wrong here?Comments and changes to this ticket

- State changed from “new” to “duplicate”
I believe this is a duplicate of ticket #658 which, unfortunately, is unresolved. I'll update that ticket soon (I recommend you “watch” it). I've been postponing it because I was out of ideas.
