Filter by Contact List

Is there a way to access a contact list, like a list in Contacts.app, for filtering? I have searched around and can't seem to find a way to do it.
It is rather difficult to create personal/family/work smart folders without something like this.

Sorry to bump but any word on this? Finding this to be a road block for creating smart lists. Adding multiple "from"/"to" fields to a smart group conditions is really clunky and falls apart quickly i.e. getting a list of all email to and from "clients" means double entry and a really long list of conditions.

Sorry for not providing an answer sooner. I have not made any progress on this although I believe I know how I would implement it (important first step). The bad news is that this is actually a duplicate of the much older ticket #237. In that ticket I suggest a workaround. The workaround could also utilise tags instead of an IMAP mailbox.
