Cannot see received mail

Reported by Matthew Lemon | November 21st, 2013 @ 04:48 PM

Hi,

Really enjoying exploring MailMate. I use Gmail and have a problem. Don't know if this is Gmail specific...

I cannot see received email, only mail that I have sent (and the threads below that, so the emails I have responded to). This only appears to be the case for most legacy email. New email seem to be in the inbox and all mail without any problems.

If I do a search for emails that were sent to me yesterday (before I installed MailMate) and I know they are sitting there in Gmail, I cannot find them. I have hundreds of emails from my wife by searching for her email address (From: in Custom Search) finds nothing. It seems none of this emails have been downloaded from the IMAP server.

Any ideas?

Cheers. Matt

Hi - just to add... Clearly there's something I'm missing here. Gmail (All Mail) in the browser is reporting that I have over 8,000 emails, wheras MailMate is reporting All Messages as (2,700). Obviously, MailMate does not download/access all gmail emails then. Is that normal? Thanks. Matt

Yes, MailMate does not, by default, synchronize [Gmail]/All Mail because it would result in fetching duplicate messages. Recently I did a workaround for that such that it can be synchronized without generating duplicates (known messages are ignored). This can be slow for large accounts though. Your account is small and you could try subscribing to “[Gmail]/All Mail” using “Edit subscriptions” in the IMAP account settings.

Does this explain what you see?

Hi - thank you. I'm not sure I really understand the specifics of what is happening with Gmail's IMAP configuration but I now have all my email in MailMate, which is what I want. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. Keep up the good work. Matt
