unable to receive mail

tryout of demo of mail mate. Using latest version of Mavericks on brand new iMac. spinning ball under sources, no mail coming through. Using settings from Earthlink web page pop.ix.netcom.com

MailMate is IMAP only and
pop.ix.netcom.com
appears to be a POP3 server. Note that some IMAP providers (for example, Gmail) allow you to fetch email from a POP3 account and put it in an IMAP mailbox within an IMAP account. This is the only way you can use MailMate to fetch your email.(I did a quick Google search and it appears Earthlink does not support IMAP.)
