Source includes count for junk mail inbox

Reported by Martin | August 28th, 2013 @ 10:35 PM

I get a count of new mail in the source mailbox group any time I receive mail in the Junk folder, which is distracting. I'd like junk mail to go unnoticed. This is how I have configured the relevant mailboxes:

  • Junk Mail folder is set to Mailbox type -> Junk
  • Junk Mail folder has Display count -> No count. As a result it doesn't show a count of unread spam, as desired
  • Source folder group has Display count -> Inherit, so it shows the count from desired mailboxes, such as Inbox. However, with this setting it also shows the count of Junk mail, which is not what I'd expect since I've set its display count to no count.

Here's a screenshot to help clarify

Does this make sense? Please let me know if I'm misunderstanding the configuration or if I can provide any further details.

Thank you so much for making MailMate so great!

Thanks for the thorough description. I think I understand the problem.

“Inherit” just means that it'll count messages the same way that the parent mailbox counts messages. For a top level item this just means it'll inherit the global default which is “Unread”. In that case I should probably name it “Default”.

So, behavior is as expected, but then your problem is instead an implicit feature request. What you need is a sum of the counts of the children mailboxes. I don't think that would be very hard to implement. It's almost harder to name it. Maybe just “Submailboxes”? (It primarily makes sense when the parent mailbox is a virtual mailbox.)

Oh, and another caveat: Should such a count be recursive?
