Create IMAP mailboxes from offline "sent" POP mailboxes
Reported by Andy Neal | August 25th, 2013 @ 11:26 AM
I am switching from Apple Mail to MailMate. I am trying to import old offline "sent" mailboxes created when I used POP. I exported the mailboxes from Apple Mail as mbox, created a new IMAP mailbox with the same name, and imported the messages from the old mbox folders. I did this offline for speed. All the messages are now readable in MailMate and attachments are in place. When I tried to take the mailboxes online they failed. My current mail server is Gmail if that matters. I can see how smart mailboxes will be useful going forward, but I would like to include the historical data if possible. Apparently I can keep the folders offline and that actually works for me since I just need to use the messages as information. But I would rather they were online and visible from other locations.

In theory, at least, what you describe should work. What kind of error message did you get – if any. Maybe Gmail didn't like the mailbox names?

I am still interested in finding out why the mailboxes could not be taken online, but I'll mark the ticket as
cantreproduce
for now. -

The user switched to a different IMAP provider and the original problem was never resolved.
