#3128 ✓fixcommitted

MmDefaultMailboxSearchFilter ignored

Reported by Roland | October 4th, 2022 @ 07:51 PM

(too many blank lines to avoid everything in one line)

According to the manual, I closed MailMate, wrote

roland@ ~ % defaults write MmDefaultMailboxSearchFilter -string "subject.body ~ ''"

roland@ ~ Profiles % defaults read MmDefaultMailboxSearchFilter

"-string" = "subject.body ~ ''";

and restarted.

Pressing Cmd+F still starts a search for the field "From". Expected: Subject > Body.

Btw, is there a doc where I could change this to 'common headers or unquoted text'? I remember I once had this, on an old mac.

I was unaware of this typo in the manual, but it should be:

    defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDefaultMailboxSearchFilter -string "subject.body ~ ''"

But I think it should be fine if you just delete it:

    defaults delete com.freron.MailMate MmDefaultMailboxSearchFilter

    Hi Benny,

thanks, it works with subject now. But I wanted to have 'Common Headers or Unquoted Text', which is not in the manual. I guess it has some shortcut for the menu item?

If I try this, mailmate just crashes when pressing cmd+ctrl+opt+F:

roland@ ~ % defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDefaultMailboxSearchFilter -string "Common Headers or Unquoted Text ~ ''"

If I try this, it looks like it works ("Common Headers or Unquoted Text" is written in the Dropdown), but the matching entry is not selected, so it's just a search failing after every input.

roland@ ~ % defaults write com.freron.MailMate MmDefaultMailboxSearchFilter -string "'Common Headers or Unquoted Text' ~ ''"

Apparently, I cannot even remember all features of MailMate myself: Setup your preferred state after hitting cmd+ctrl+opt+F. Then use “Edit ▸ Find ▸ Use as Default Search”.

I'll remove the note on the hidden preference from the manual. The above feature is already described in the “Advanced Search” section.

Sorry about my initial useless reply.

Thanks Benny, this works like a charm (and is sooo much easier :-))
