Recently archived/deleted mails show in Inbox after a migration

Reported by Sinderella | December 25th, 2021 @ 08:54 AM

I was trying to migrate my MailMate settings from my old MBP to a new one by copying the following files.

Identities.plist, Mailboxes.plist, Sources.plist, Submission.plist, Tags.plist

The issue occurs after the mailboxes synced, many recently archived/deleted mails showed up in the normal inbox. When I tried to delete or archive them, there would be an error saying that it's unable to do so like it's there (which should be the case).

I am not sure what would be the best way to deal with this. I did try rebuilding the database and it didn't help.

Cheers!

Your migration strategy should have worked I believe. Are you sure the accounts are fully online/synchronized on your old MBP? Look for anything greyed out under Sources in the mailbox list.

Even if that was the problem then you should be able to archive/delete emails. Maybe try enabling the “Source Mailbox” column in the mailbox list to make sure that you and MailMate agree on the location of these emails.

Do you see this issue with multiple accounts and/or IMAP services?

Are you sure the accounts are fully online/synchronized on your old MBP? - Yep! There wasn't really any problem and it's synced with webmail.

After enable to source's columns, I noticed that there are 2 duplicated sets of emails, one in "All Messages" and the other in "Inbox". Deleting the one in "All Messages" gives me the following error message as if it shouldn't exist there.

I just realised this only happens with ProtonMail (using ProtonMail bridge). I hope that helps!

Edit: The mailbox did another re-sync somehow and I think it's working fine now. Probably the error occurred as I tried to delete archived mails. If that's the case, feel free to close the ticket. Cheers!

I'm glad it works for you now.

The “All Mail” mailbox is a special Gmail mailbox. (I don't know if ProtonMail has something similar.) For Gmail it's useful to know how it differs from standard IMAP servers. See the manual page here.
