Threads show oldest message at top level
Reported by Dan Caligor | October 23rd, 2012 @ 08:54 PM
Hi, I just installed MailMAte and am just beginning to explore features. I am confused by the presentation of threads -- they seem to show the OLDEST message at the top (collapsed) level in my inbox, so I have to open all layers of an incoming threaded message to see the latest. I have not been able to find a preference or setting that would correct this. Is this intended behavior? Is it a wetware (user) problem?

MailMate uses (old-school?) strict threading based on “Message-ID” and “In-Reply-To” message headers. This has both advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages is that the newest message in a thread can seem far away. Note that holding down ⌥ when expanding a message expands the entire tree and that using the “Next Message” shortcuts in the Message menu also automatically expands the tree as needed, for example, you can use “Next Unread Message” (⌥⌘⇣) to quickly jump to the first unread message in a thread).
I do plan to offer another threading style more like the one in Apple Mail (without the grouping of all messages with the same subject line), but this is not coming soon.
