Curious about memory usage in 1.1.4 (5844)
Reported by Rich Siegel | November 19th, 2021 @ 06:38 PM
While looking at Activity Monitor memory usage for an unrelated reason, I noticed that quite a lot of memory usage was being charged to MailMate. Fortunately Activity Monitor supports copying, so here's a listing below.
Points of interest:
-
the "about:" processes add up to a lot -- I assume they've got something to do with message content display? At the moment I only have one message displayed, and these all add up to a significant amount of footprint.
-
I don't know what the "com.apple.audio.SandboxHelper" processes are for, since I don't have MailMate configured to play any sounds.
Other than those items I don't see anything out of the ordinary,
but I'm happy to run a leaks
report or gather any
other diagnostics that you would like.

Yes, the
about:
processes are related to message views. Multiple HTML views (WKWebView
) are used to display a message, but more are currently used than really necessary. It can certainly be improved. If/when that happens I'll update this ticket. In addition to this, MailMate caches the views used for the 5 most recently displayed messages. On average, I'll guess this will add up to around 20 WKWebViews. If you see much more than that for a single window then it might be a bug/leak.
