Transfer MailMate Settings Fail
Reported by Nate de Vries | November 13th, 2021 @ 08:03 PM
Performed a long overdue clean install of Mid 2015 MacBook Pro with intentions of upgrading to Big Sur from Catalina but instead did Monterey. Thought I checked all my software but overlooked MailMate and so...
Followed the instructions per Manual on transferring settings, then installed MailMate Version 1.14 (5846), and set up accounts but none of the old preferences, rules, etc., have appeared. Not sure what to do... Mail from all my accounts has appeared, though without any of the rules and so is a jumbled mess.
I'm not a super tech but maybe something simple I missed or a way to bring old preferences to this new version?

I suggest you start over by only copying the
.plist
files in this folder:/Users/Library/Application Support/MailMate/*.plist
Those have most of your settings (including smart mailboxes). When MailMate is launched then it'll fetch the emails from the server(s).
Let me know if this does not help.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I copied over the .plist files (the ones at the first level, Mailboxes, Identities, Tags, Sources, Submission and Signatures) and placed them into a corresponding file in Monterey (/Users/Library/Application Support/MailMate). Then reinstalled MailMate and launched. Everything looks good, all my rules, accounts, etc., seem to be there, which is excellent. But then it started crashing, almost constantly.
I can't determine any pattern to the crashing, except that it seems to happen fairly quickly after launch, within 2-3 minutes.

Followed your suggestion a second time because I remembered I had left the /Users/Library/Preferences/*.plist remain the first time... so just to make sure I repeated it. The results were the same. After five or so minutes the crashing resumed and was constant.
But then I noticed that it seemed to start only after three of my four accounts had completed- with the fourth still trying to load, that fourth being Zoho mail. When I took the Zoho account offline, the crashing stopped. I've been having an issue with this account for the last six months in Catalina (I did post in this forum); MM would give an error message every minute or so about the sent mail server (though my mail always did send). Mysteriously, the error messages stopped sometime around late September or early October. If this account weren't important to me I would delete it... but it's my main work email. I did have Zoho support look at my account (about five months back) and they reported to me they didn't see any problems.

Have you enabled sending crash reports in the Software Update preferences pane? What is the contact name?
Also, please update to r5847 (which might fix a crashing issue although I don't think it's the one you are having).
No matter what the problem might be with the Zoho account, it should of course not crash MailMate.

I just enabled crash reports and added my contact name (with email in parenthesis).
I also just updated to 5847 and tested it by trying to sync it with my Zoho account but it again crashed as in the previous version.

Thanks, I've identified the issue and I'll see if I can fix it for r5848.
I believe it's triggered by a configuration issue: You have a rule on the Zoho account somewhere which exports emails, but the destination folder does not exist. MailMate does have a low-level check which should show you a warning, but this fails and crashes instead.

Benny, Thanks for your work on this. I downloaded 5848, tried to sync Zoho, then instead of crashing it gave me the warning with the two options. So next I proceeded to work on my rules; the key ones I re- pointed to the correct export file locations, and others I just turned off as a temporary measure. The result was good! Appreciate your efforts with r5848.
