Unable to install on non-admin account

Reported by Mike Conley | May 10th, 2021 @ 05:09 PM

Recently I've become unable to install updates (largely beta updates) of MailMate because the installer does not request admin authentication and so does not have permission to write to the Applications folder.

This is a recent development; I've not had this problem in the past. It seems to have arisen in the past month or so (time flies).

When I check for a test update, I get the download dialog. After I click Download and Install, the app downloads, and then I get a sheet that reads:-

Failed to Install Update
You don't have permission to save the file "MailMate" in the folder "Applications".

    • State changed from “new” to “reproduced”

This is unfortunately a known problem and I do hope to fix it eventually. It's just not a high priority yet.

One workaround is to keep a local copy of MailMate in ~/Applications/.
