Search doesn't work
Reported by Thomas Heinrichsdobler | April 19th, 2021 @ 06:56 AM
Entering a search term and hitting Enter doesn't do anything
except highlight the search term:

Am I doing it wrong?
Please let me know if you need any additional information.
Thanks!

There's a known issue where this fails if the same search has been done previously. In any case, please try the latest test release to see if this is still reproducible: MailMate_r5797.

Thank you, Benny. I have updated to the release you linked, but the issue persists.

Hmm, I'm not having this issue. What if you open a new viewer window using ⌥⌘N?
What if you use a different layout?

Still the same issue:
Using a new viewer window: https://cln.sh/91I9CA5XZVdwd4SvOlEH
Using a different layout: https://cln.sh/9kPa9F7fr4kuDjBLguKv
Also, MailMate takes a really long time to start, could that have something to do with it?

No, the startup time is likely not related.
Could you try launching MailMate from a Terminal window like this:
/Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate
I'd like to know if there is any error output when you do these searches.
What is your Default Mailbox setting in the toolbar search menu?

After launching MailMate from a Terminal and performing a search, the output is this: https://cln.sh/TY6iGuc3qVaumldaJZRr
The default mailbox for the search menu is set to "All Messages".

Just a quick note: If you look closely at that output then you'll see that there is some issue with a locally installed ruby gem. I'm not sure exactly why it happens or what MailMate could possibly do to avoid it, but you might be able to fix it by fixing whatever is wrong with that gem (or remove it).

Thank you Benny, removing that gem fixed the search. Strange, but glad it's solved now. Thank you for your help!

I'm glad it worked. It's kind of a bug that MailMate doesn't report some kind of useful error message.
