Migration to new computer failed

Reported by Jonathan | March 6th, 2021 @ 08:06 PM

Just moved from a macbook pro 2016 to a new mac mini m1.
Moved the library and preferences files at:

~/Library/Preferences/com.freron.MailMate.plist ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/

When I opened MailMate on the new computer it was empty.
How can I get the Big Sur version of MailMate to look at these folders and import my mailboxes and rules?

On the M1, you can get a test release with arm64 support here: r5776. I recommend installing that before continuing with the following.

I'm not sure why MailMate would be empty. Some files must have failed to copy -- or maybe MailMate was running when you copied the files?

I would recommend only copying the .plist files in this folder (and the preferences-file you already copied):

    ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/*.plist

MailMate will then refetch all emails and rebuild the database giving you a “clean” start.

The only major reason to keep the old database would be if you use tags with a server like Exchange IMAP (which does not support the custom IMAP keywords needed to synchronize with the server).

I followed these instructions exactly and when I opened the new mailmate...it was totally empty with no mailboxes showing. It's not pulling from these files and plists for some reason. Is there a way to manually import preferences, mailboxes, or most importantly my rules?

I too am having an issue with migrating my preferences to my new computer.

I am running MailMate Version 1.14 (5937) on MacOS 13.2.

I have followed the steps as outlined at the bottom of: https://manual.mailmate-app.com/rebuild; however, when I open MailMate I need to set up accounts manually, and none of my settings/preferences (e.g., folders, tags, etc.) appear.

MailMate on my old computer is still running as it should, and all of my preferences are intact (as I would expect them to be).

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Tim

Just a very late update to this ticket. If anyone else has this issue then make absolutely sure that the plist-files are in this folder:

    /Users/<username>/Application Support/MailMate/

Maybe also take a look inside the files to make sure they appear to have the correct content, e.g., the “Sources.plist” file should references your previously used account names.
