Feature request: Scheduled sending

Reported by Alexander Kucera | March 18th, 2012 @ 12:38 PM

Hi Benny,

today I set up an e-mail to a client, but since it is Sunday, I am really hesitant to send it and give the impression that I work 24/7. But on the other hand, I'd like them to get the mail first thing Monday morning (and they start way earlier then I get up).

So I was wondering, if it were possible to build scheduled e-mail sending into MailMate. A few programs offer it (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc.), but of course, it would rock to have this feature in my favorite IMAP client. :)

I know it's not what you are asking for, but there is a hidden
    feature
    to
delay sending of emails by some fixed amount of time. The implementation
of that feature was done with your problem in mind as well.

What is missing is some kind of GUI for setting an explicit date. I'm
still thinking about that. In your case, I guess what you really need is
to easily limit sending to standard work hours/days.

Actually, the hidden feature sound perfect. I haven't really thought as far as setting advanced limits for work hours. That is a fantastic idea though.

It was more of a: "god, I wish I could send this e-mail at 7am without having to install Thunderbird to do it."

I haven't really put much thought into how it might be implemented.

Edit: on reading through the release note I have to admit, that the hidden feature is nice, but doesn't really help with one off delayed e-mails. I don't want to delay every e-mail by 7 or more hours. ;) And changing the default just for a single e-mail seems a bit tedious, though would work in special cases.

"Scheduled sending" is always one of my dream functions an email client can have.

This feature is part of version 1.6 soon to be released.

And yes, you can tell MailMate to send “tomorrow at 7.00”.

Thanks for adding this Benny and thanks to Self-Reliant Film for sponsoring the feature.
