Problem: The new Status Bar design is significantly wider than the older one, and does not gracefully handle cases where the preferred window width is narrower than the optimal width of the status bar.

At the same window width, the new bar attempts to keep all elements visible, overlapping them if necessary to do so. In the older design, the elements on the right would simply become hidden, as is typical for toolbars.

Of course a big part of the problem is also that the elements themselves are considerably larger, both in font and icon style. But as you can see, I personally already find this window width to be unnecessary wide, even in the older version. I only kept it that wide because I use attachments and need to see that indicator. As one who prefers to compose to a 65-character line width, a good 1/4 of this window width is unnecessary save for the fact that the status bar insists the window be wider.

There are elements within the status bar I never use. I never change outgoing email format from plain text, and I don't select between a variety of signatures on a regular basis. That's almost 6cm of toolbar I've used maybe once since buying MailMate, and then only to see what it did. If we could elect which elements to have on this status bar, this is what my composition window would look like:

Sorry to combine what is a feature request with a bug report on overlapping elements---but I felt the two topics are so intertwined I'd have to arrange for "See Also" links between them.
