Duplicate Sent Items - IMAP - Office 365

I have an Office 365 account connected via IMAP in Mailmate.

Every time I send a message it creates 2 copies of message in my sent items folder. It only seems to be happening with my Office 365 account (my Gmail accounts connected via IMAP seem to be fine.) I've tried rebuilding the Mailmate database, as well as removing and re-adding the IMAP account but that does not resolve the issue.

Based on my tests and talking to people who I have sent email to, it does not appear that 2 copies of the email are being sent, just 2 copies are showing up in my Sent Items. I have tried sending email via the Office 365 web app, and using Airmail and iOS Mail and neither one of those results in 2 copies showing up in my sent items.

I am currently running (beta) Version 1.12 (5523)

    The problem is that the SMTP server saves a copy of sent emails in the IMAP account. This happens without the email client knowing about it. Traditionally, it was the responsibility of the email client to keep a copy of sent messages, but some email servers behave differently now.

    I don't really know how other email clients handle it, but it's a non-trivial problem for various reasons. That is, it's non-trivial to delete a duplicate without the risk of losing information about what was sent.

    But I'm aware of the problem and since it appears an increasing number of servers behave like this I should probably do something about it :-)
