Linebreaks not rendering

Similar to issue #900, I have recently been unable to get line breaks to appear in composed messages. All other markdown elements seem to be rendering.
I'm seeing this in v1.9.6 (5342) on Sierra 10.12.2, could the Yosemite issue have come back? Or is this another issue?

This appears to be happen on certain email compositions, but not all, and I have not identified what action causes it. But it is common enough to be problematic.
