Seeing all messages in a thread does not allow scrolling

Reported by Yogananda | January 15th, 2017 @ 08:29 PM

Hi there!

I notice that when I select a message, and then click the button to show all messages in the thread, and the number of messages in the thread is larger than the main-outline view can show at once, the view will not scroll if the message I selected is not the first message in the thread. This makes it so that as I arrow down to view messages farther down in the thread, the row of the selected message in the main outline view is not displayed, even though the message is displayed in the message viewer. In cases of large threads, this can mean that the currently selected message is not even displayed in the main-outline window. Resizing the main-outline window with the mouse makes it behave again.

I'd attach screenshots to illustrate, but I'm ashamed to say that I can't figure out how to display images in this ticket. I have attempted to use an inline image, as the formatting help describes, but the image doesn't show up:

Anyway, hopefully the above description makes sense. If not I'll try to provide more info.

Thanks!

Yogananda

If I understand correctly then you would like MailMate to auto-scroll the selected item into view if this was the one expanded? (It cannot always happen because then it would also happen if expanding something unselected.)

No, this is a UI bug. The main outline view refuses to scroll, as if the messages it is displaying are the only messages in the thread.

Here is a set of screenshots illustrating the behavior.

Thanks, I was able to reproduce this now and I've seen it myself in the past.

I'm afraid it's not easily fixed. I have some changes planned for the messages list which might implicitly fix, but until then I'm probably not going to try to debug it any further. I'll leave the ticket in the accepted state to reflect that this is an unfixed issue.

Ok no worries — it's not a huge deal. Thanks!
