Some emails suddenly properly formatted

Reported by Andreas Jung | August 26th, 2016 @ 02:27 PM

Running Mailmate 1.9.4.

Since yesterday some of my emails are improperly formatted (ignoring linefeeds)...but not all emails.
The weird thing is that the formatting is correct again when I enable the distortion mode....is this a known bug?

The bug is not known, but the “symptom” is known. It would usually happen if one of the external scripts fail which MailMate uses to generate the message. It's not obvious to me why using distortion mode would change that, but maybe whatever triggers the script to fail does not happen when the message is distorted.

You can launch MailMate from a Terminal window to see if any errors are output. The problem is either a local issue, e.g., some kind of system resource issue, or it's something specific in these message triggering a bug in MailMate. In the latter case, I can reproduce it with an example message.

Launching MailMate from a Terminal window:

    /Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/MacOS/MailMate

You can also see if this happens to be a fixed issue by updating to the latest test release (hold down ⌥ when clicking “Check Now” in the Software Update preferences pane).

(And no, I haven't fixed the column-saving issue yet, but at least it's getting nearer the top of my list.)

This indicates that MailMate has not sanitized the data before calling the script, but I thought I already did this. Did it also fail in the test release I suggested?

If yes, do you have an email you can share? Maybe you can drag it out of MailMate and edit it with a text editor to remove any sensitive data (while it still fails to be displayed correctly by MailMate).

    Thanks in advance.
