Automatically add attachments to a specific folder

Reported by Sander | January 3rd, 2016 @ 06:42 PM

Hi,

I'm currently searching for an OSX mail app that can do this:

Make a new rule;
If there's a new e-mail with attachment it can automatically add attachments (and only from specific e-mailadresses) to a folder.

Some businesses always send automatically new pdf receipts and always from the same e-mail address. And I have a lot of receipts via e-mail. I don't want to open these e-mails, I only want to watch a specific folder for receipts. Is something like this possible with MailMate?

Best,

Sander

Well, I think it's possible, but there's no straightforward way to do this. The easiest would probably be if MailMate had some kind of “Save Attachments” action for rules with a destination mailbox -- maybe with an optional filename pattern. I'll keep the ticket open to track any progress on such a feature.

Given that MailMate does not yet have that then the only way is a complicated use of smart mailboxes based on “All Messages ▸ All Message Subparts” and probably also a custom bundle command...

...ok, I fixed an issue such that the custom bundle command is not necessary, but it's still pretty complicated (the smart mailboxes used). It does work though, but I'm not sure I would recommend it...

Update: This has not been implemented as a GUI feature yet, but it's a bit closer given better support for handling attachments in bundle commands as documented here.

I have exactly the same need that Sander defined. I see the linked material regarding handling attachments in bundle commands. Can you offer an example of how to use that? I would be looking for images attached to emails with a certain phrase in the subject line (or from a certain address, etc), and would like to drop the image attachments into a specific folder for automatic import into a Paperless library.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

i'm switching from Apple Mail, for administration purposes, i've the same needs.
Very clever app, but unfortunately support of applescript seems weak in Mailmate

    Thanks

I would LOVE to have this functionality, too. A lot of the heavy lifting on file attachment renaming/filing is handled on the filesystem using Hazel, but having to process the incoming email (& attachments) manually is where things fall apart.

I would also like to endorse the proposal. I use an electronic notebook to take minutes of meetings. I then send the note as a PDF to my e-mail inbox to archive it from there in my DMS. This process happens several times a day. Automatic storage of these attachments would make archiving much easier for me.

There's experimental support for much easier (automatic) handling of attachments in the latest update. Pick the latest one here to try it out (r6047+): https://updates.mailmate-app.com/archives/

    Read more about it here.
