annoying lost-connection dialogs when mobile

some days i spend quite a lot of time working on trains, and mobile internet is kinda patchy in the UK
when mailmate connections timeout or drop (not sure whether one or the other or both) i get a dialog on top of all windows telling me which connection has failed, which can only be dismissed by pressing OK, which means that i have a sequence of 13 (one for each account) dialogs to click through
or, since i am grumpy, i kill -9 mailmate and leave it off until i have a more stable connection
it would be much nicer if mailmate used osx notifications so i could ignore and/or control the notifications
