Delay in menubar notification?

Reported by Paul Mazaitis | August 3rd, 2015 @ 02:46 PM

I'm using SpamSieve with MailMate 1.9.1 (5084) - one side effect I've noticed is that sometimes mail coming in will trigger the new mail menubar icon for just a moment. My guess is that SpamSieve leaves spam in the inbox just long enough to trigger the menubar icon, then when the mail is reviled to Junk, the icon is removed. The upshot of this is a flicker in the menubar.

Can this flicker behavior be suppressed?

Thanks!

The flicker is caused by MailMate fetching messages in two rounds. First headers and then the body. It's something I plan to change, but I'm not currently touching that part of the code (if it's not broke, ...).

A workaround could be to make a smart mailbox which only shows Inbox messages which have a SpamSieve Score (#spamsieve-score). Then change the counter in the Counter preferences pane to count messages in this mailbox instead. That way it won't be shown until after being checked by SpamSieve.

(It won't work well for emails not checked by the local install of MailMate.)

I'll close the ticket, but the main issue should be fixed whenever I change how MailMate fetches messages initially.
