Shortcut or alias for "favourite" mailboxes?

Reported by Paul | April 22nd, 2015 @ 04:32 AM

Is there a way to manually pick a set of mailboxes from across my hierarchy, and group them as "favourites" in some way?

Apple Mail has a "favourites" toolbar which is very useful because the list is always visible and accessible with a single click - and it also serves when moving messages from the current folder into any of those mailboxes.

Any chance of a similar feature in MailMate?

Thanks,

Paul.

Yes, it's probably not going to be soon, but I do have it in mind. See duplicate ticket #1058.

    OK got it. Understood.

But can you tell me, what is the best way in MailMate to file messages from a high-volume Inbox, into a bunch of different Mailboxes? It is laborious using the obvious method of browsing the hierarchy.

Also is there a single click method for going back to the Inbox ?

The intention is that you use ⌥⌘T (Move to Mailbox). It can also learn abbreviations if needed.

Well, single click would be clicking on the Inbox, but I assume you mean shortcut? No, not by default. There is ⌘T (Go to Mailbox) and low level custom key bindings can be used to bind any key to any mailbox. If you enable the Gmail key bindings (see the General preferences pane) then you can hit g followed by i to move to the Inbox. See this file (in a text editor) for other Gmail key bindings:

    MailMate.app/Contents/Resources/KeyBindings/Gmail.plist

If i had a favourites bar I'd put the Inbox there so it was always available with one click. :-)

It really is very long-winded to have to use a 3-key sequence and then select from a list for every message (or group) to be filed. I get hundreds of emails a day and file 50+ of them, the majority to a small set of folders (which can change over time). This is why the favourites bar would really be handy.

    thanks.

I see now that after I've filed some messages, the Mailbox list contains the most recently-used mailboxes. That's not obvious at first glance, but it's great!

It's only a shame that MailMate doesn't remember the list of recent mailboxes when it is restarted.

Could that be added as a feature request?

    Paul.
