jumping between folders/fix from disappearing columns
Reported by Bart Lipman | February 6th, 2023 @ 09:18 PM
I installed the latest test build to fix the problem of the columns changing as I switched from the inbox to another folder and back again.
But now there's a new issue: Occasionally, MailMate simply moves to a different folder without me doing anything (intentional!) to trigger this.
To be clear, I use a special plist of keyboard shortcuts to jump between the inbox and a smart folder that looks into my SaneLater folder and back again. I have shortcuts for other folders, but mostly those two. Since installing the new build, four or five times, MailMate has just jumped to one of the other folders without any input from me.

Update: I was able to reproduce this. I was in a mail folder other than the inbox, switched back to the inbox using a keyboard shortcut. I replied to an email and hit send. The reply was sent and MailMate jumped me back to the mail folder I'd been in before.

I'm having the same issue, also only since upgrading to 5942.

I'm having this issue as well. MM will jump to a different folder as soon as an unread message is marked as read.

Surprised not to see more posts here. @Benny assume you haven't seen this? Would it help if I created a screen recording?

I'd also be happy (and am motivated) to provide whatever testing/reporting will help to get this fixed.

I'm also having lots of issues with the columns changing when I change mailboxes. I remember Benny had said months/years ago this was a particularly difficult issue to troubleshoot. But with this latest beta release, it's become way, way more frequent.

Can confirm I have not seen this bug since updating to 5944 this morning. (Went from 5942 straight to 5944.)
[correction] I spoke too soon. I am still seeing the same bug on 5944. -

I just updated to 5944 (also straight from 5942) and hit the bug again almost immediately. For me, almost every time I send a message, I find myself jumping back to the mailbox before the one I was in when I hit send.
E.g., I was in my sent mail checking something, went back to the inbox, replied to a message, and as the message was going out, MailMate kicked me back to my sent mail folder.

The most recent occurrence was when pressing a custom keyboard shortcut "e" to archive an email. The email gets archived, but MM jumps to a different folder.

I have noticed something that may be helpful in reproducing. I have a 5min delay by default for outgoing emails. I just noticed that MM jumped to another folder without me pressing any key at the same instant as a queued email sent (I heard the mail send sound).

Sorry about the late reply on this one. I do have several reports about issues like this -- apparently with different triggers. I've looked at the related code and tried some debugging with a user, but I haven't resolved it yet. Interestingly, it never happens for me, but that might just be about the features I do and do not use.
Hmm, I'll review the changes done just before this ticket was created. It sounds likely that a specific change caused this issue.

Ok, I think I've spotted a problem which would be triggered if any mailboxes would be created/deleted as a side-effect of some types of actions. I think that includes dynamically created submailboxes which means it could be triggered quite often.
Here's a direct download for an attempt to quickly fix this: MailMate r5948. Note that the previous releases have other changes which mean other bugs.
