forwarded html emails are different than original email?

Reported by Jeff Y. | August 20th, 2014 @ 07:28 PM

I use tripit to manage my travel confirmations. Tripit was unable to parse the email when I forwarded from MailMate, but it worked fine when I forwarded it from Gmail. The emails appear quite different.

Thanks!
-Jeff

The original message starts like this:
###################################### Subject: JEFFREY Y SAN FRANCISCO 05SEP14
To: jeff@yunes.us

######################################

But the forwarded message looks something like this:

###################################### Forwarded message:

From: Delta Air Lines DeltaAirLines@e.delta.com To: jeff@yunes.us Subject: JEFFREY Y SAN FRANCISCO 05SEP14 Date: Tue, 19 Aug 2014 16:50:48 -0000

The composer in MailMate cannot handle inline HTML. Strictly speaking, no email client can do that (HTML was not designed to be inlined), but MailMate is plain text only and therefore it becomes even harder. What you see is MailMate trying to convert the message to plain text (Markdown).

I suggest you try to use “Messages ▸ Forward as Attachment”. That preserves the HTML 100%, but tripit might not be able to handle it that way (which is a mistake in my opinion, but I've seen it before).

I'm still considering how I can let MailMate handle it when HTML must be used when replying/forwarding, but so far I haven't come up with a satisfactory solution which doesn't involve the use of an HTML editor and most likely a lot of trial-and-error-based behavior. (Numerous issue tickets illustrate that I have thought about this for a long time.)

(Hmm, I guess I could introduce a special “Forward as HTML” action which generates a non-editable inlined HTML message… I'll give that some thought.)

I have the same issue. Doing a "Forward as HTML" action would be awesome!

A solution to this (and similar issues) is available in the latest public release (1.9.5).
