Crash after running out of disk space

Reported by Paul Furgale | March 29th, 2014 @ 08:42 AM

I was copying files locally when I ran out of disk space. I probably had a composer window open at the time. MailMate crashed as the disk space ran out.

I have since freed up some space but now when I try to open MailMate, it crashes every time.

Can you give me a quick fix so that I can open the program again?

I've attached the problem details from Apple's pop up.

Sorry to hear about this and thanks for the hint about lack of disk space — although I cannot quite see how that could result in the crash you are experiencing. I'll have to think about that.

First look for any files ending in .tmp in this folder:

    ~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/

It might help me understand the origin of the problem if you send them to me as well.

Next, you could try deleting the .tmp files before launching MailMate. I think MailMate is then going to launch, but it's likely that it'll tell you that a rebuild of the database is needed. Follow the instructions given for this.

Thanks for the hint! The file was .files_to_be_written.tmp. I'm kicking my self that I didn't keep you a copy; I just deleted it without thinking. However, creating that file with random text in it (echo hello >> .files_to_be_written) reproduces the crash.

    Anyhow, I'm happy now. Thanks!

Also, no database rebuilding was necessary. Once the file was gone, it just launched.

Thanks for the update. I suspect the file was empty, but the problem is that I don't know how that could happen. I'll give it some more thought.
