massive slowdown on responsiveness typing and actions

In the last week or two I've seen a dramatic slowdown specifically in this application. When I type, there is significant delay, and same when I send or file a message. Lots of spinning wheels... it's enough to make me stop using it, but I have loved it for so long...
Has anyone had this? My activity monitor does not suggest that the CPU is having a hard time, and other apps don't have this issue.
I’m on macOS 10.13.6 (17G65) with plenty of RAM.

Sounds like you might have a smart mailbox definition which triggers some very slow computations (just guessing). If you know how to use a Terminal window then issue the following while MailMate is hanging:
sample MailMate 10 -f ~/Desktop/sample_mailmate.txtThen send me the resulting file, e.g., using “Help ▸ Send Feedback”.
