Composing replies and markdown

Reported by Chauncey | November 12th, 2014 @ 08:46 PM

I don't know if it's possible, but I think this would be a great improvement for the use of markdown in the compose window:

When I create a reply to a message, ½ the time I am able to use markdown and the other ½ I must disable it because it messes with the formatting of the included reply. It'd be great if there was a way to leave to previous message text alone and just apply the markdown formatting to the new text that is being written.

This is, more or less, exactly how I plan to solve the problem of forwarding/replying to HTML messages when using a plain text editor. I haven't implemented it yet, but it's a relatively high priority.

Any update on this? This would be the killer markdown feature I think -- otherwise I find myself having to often turn off markdown support :-/

The latest public release includes a solution to this issue. It can embed arbitrary HTML, but even if the replied text is plain text then MailMate does not send it through the Markdown processor.
