OpenPGP encryption failed
Reported by Jake Rayson | October 24th, 2014 @ 10:44 AM
I've set up a new GPG key using GPGTools.
I can sign an email no problem, but if I try to encrypt an email, I get this error message:
OpenPGP encryption failed INV_RECP 0 web@growdigital.org
Any ideas? tia, Jake

Are you sure you have the public key for
web@growdigital.org
?The 0 error code itself is not very helpful (a bit typical for gpg)

Ahh, my mistake. I haven't used GPG for many many years, I forgot that the encryption is using their public key.
Thought it was encrypted using my private key, then decrypted using my publicly available public key (if that makes sense).
thanks for your help, Jake

- State changed from new to resolved
It makes sense if using encryption to ensure that the message has not been changed, but that is the purpose of signing. The message is, by the way, also encrypted using your public key since otherwise you could not decrypt the message yourself.
