Request: exempt part of a message from markdown formatting

I'm not sure how feasible it is to set something like this up but I find myself wishing, especially for replies, that there were a way to simply exempt a segment of a message from Markdown formatting without turning it completely off. For example a bounded region like ``` for code, but just for verbatim text, or even just a sigil that would mean "no Markdown formatting below this line" would take care of nearly all the issues I run into with replies.
