  Dan,

  So, looking at my iCloud settings (which are working fine for me by the way), I have 'mail.me.com' for the IMAP server, Require SSL checked, but the Port checkbox unchecked with no port value.

  I have smtp.me.com for the SMTP server, also with just Require SSL checked, the Port checkbox unchecked and no Port value.

  Not sure if this will help you out, but you never know.

  Just for the record, these settings work for me:

  imap.mail.me.com, no explicit port, SSL enabled
  smtp.mail.me.com, no explicit port, SSL enabled
  

  The username should be without the @example.com part.

  I suggest opening the Activity Viewer (⌥⌘0) before trying to get it online. Then click on the active connection and review the log. Paste it to this ticket and I'll review it.

  If you want to try connecting manually then open the terminal and paste this:

  openssl s_client -connect imap.mail.me.com:993
  

  Then write this to login:

  0 LOGIN username password

  I'd tried the settings that you suggested, probably 5 or 6 times yesterday, with the same failure.

  This morning, I tried again and everything worked ok.

  I had left the portable's settings alone while only attempting to fix the settings on my iMac. The settings on the portable have always been exactly as your email suggested. After getting the iMac back online I just started up Mailmate on the portable and right clicked the source and then chose take "iCloud" online. Mailmate worked 100%.

  Seems the problem might have been at my ISP or on Apple's servers. Let's hope this is the end of it.

  Thanks for the update. Next time you can use the openssl command to see if MailMate cannot do something that should be possible (MailMate does the same thing as openssl).

  At approximately 8:30pm EST icloud went offline again and I started getting the same problem.

  Opened a terminal and issued the command:

  openssl s_client -connect imap.mail.me.com:993

  Came back with:

  • OK [CAPABILITY st11p00mm-iscream023 1U25 XAPPLEPUSHSERVICE IMAP4 IMAP4rev1 SASL-IR AUTH=ATOKEN AUTH=PLAIN] iSCREAM ready to rumble (1U25:4978) st11p00mm-iscream023 [03:165:02:18:09:C1]

  did the 0 LOGIN with my username and password and it came back with

  0 NO [AUTHENTICATIONFAILED] Authentication failed
  closed

  tried it with both the username and the username@me.com with the same results.

  Apple mail still works.

  Ok, the openssl experiment shows that MailMate is not the problem even though Apple Mail works.

  Are you also using IMAP (and not POP3) in Apple Mail?

  Try this in the Terminal:

  defaults read | grep "imap.mail"
  

  You might then find one of those p0-addresses (or maybe something else). Try openssl with that instead.
