[Request]: Support for local mail source

Reported by Mike | November 7th, 2013 @ 04:38 PM

First of all, you're done an amazing job on Mailmate. I didn't think there was any client that just works as an IMAP tool. Right now, MailMate is just missing one tiny thing for me, the ability to let me use a local source that I'd like to use as an archive. The reason behind this request:

Rather than deleting emails from my email service to free up space (*I rather use a smaller paid service than bigger ad-based services*), I archive them to a local encrypted sparsebundle file. I keep the emails from the current year (2013) on my iMAP server and everything before that is moved offline to the sparsebundle format, either the maildir or mailbox format is used.

The issue is that every once in a while, I need to go back into the archive and find a specific email, this is difficult to do as not all tools can filter through the elm files's contents. The best one is to use an IMAP tool to do this as they're already coded for this, just need to bypass the networking stack.

It'd be awesome if MailMate can support this.

    Dear Benny,

I would like to renice this ticket from @Mike as it is indeed the workflow I'm now trying to set i.e use tools like offlineimap and imapfilter to import locally the old mails of a remote IMAP server (into maildirs), thus ensuring to safe some space on this remote server, and serve them locally. For the moment, I imagine to set a local Dovecot server to offer the proper interface to MailMate, however if MailMate could directly serve local maildirs, that would greatly help and avoid this additional yet useless layer...

In fact, I was looking for an email client to support just that use case when I stumbled over MailMate. What I read induced me to try it out, even though it lacks this feature.
